A longtime resident and business person of the Gympie district, Mike has an ongoing interest in the history and development of the area and its future. Mike has family associations with the Gympie area back to the early mining development of the 1860’s with his great grandfather, Alexander Pollock, operating the first reef gold mine, the Lady Mary PC, at Lady Mary Terrace - now the Pollock St and Pollack Lane area.
The Goomborian Hall will celebrated its centenary and is sited on land donated to the community by Mike’s great grandfather, Joe Ostwald. Mike’s follows the family tradition in Gympie with his Uncle Ab Ostwald being involved in the Real Estate business in the early 1900’s. Mike’s personal involvement in rural industry and business gives him an advantage in the Rural Sales field with his understanding of the personal, financial and technical problems associated with the industries and his ability to communicate with both the vendors and the buyers. Mike has been involved with Real Estate sales in this area since leaving the hands on farming business and moving to Gympie in 1987 and believes in getting the best deal possible for the Real Estate vendor through his excellent negotiation skills. In business for over 40 years, Mike, with his wife Gina, have together owned and managed businesses across a range of industries including, operating mixed farming enterprises in the North Burnett, Real Estate businesses in Gympie, specializing in rural sales and auctioneering as a salesperson, an agent/proprietor, an auctioneer, and tourism operations including accommodation & specialists nature tours in the Northern Territory.
Mike has a wonderful skill of communication and is happy to tell a story or two or perhaps provide a rendition of some of Banjo Paterson or Henry Lawson’s iconic works.
